Glennbrook South High School Visit

On February 25th, 2011, 70 high school students from Glennbrook South came to the Chicago Shaolin Temple for a field trip.  The day began with Buddhist blessings, sitting meditation, and some discussion of both Ch'an Buddhism and Shaolin History.  Following that, Masters Heng Feng, Yan Peng, and Heng Chao, along with students Sunny, Luca, and Ben put on a kung fu and qigong demonstration.  The visit finished up with the students learning the beginning of a fist form.  It was a good experience for everyone involved and was the second time that high school visited the temple.

Temple Closed 2/2/11, 2/3/11 for Chinese New Year

Our temple will be CLOSED Wednesday, 2/2 and Thursday, 2/3 for Chinese New Year.  We had a good year of the tiger and are now excited for year of the rabbit!  We hope to see you all training hard and attending class frequently.  Amituofo.

Performance at Tiger Pulliam Bodybuilding Championship

On September 26th, the masters and a couple students performed as the "halftime entertainment" at the Tiger Pulliam Bodybuilding Championship at IIT.  It was a well attended event and created some good exposure for the teachings of Shaolin.

Temple Hosts Local Highschool

On September 25th, 2010, 90 students from a local highschool came to our Temple to further their studies about Chinese culture.  Master Yanju along with other temple masters spoke about Shaolin history, led the students in sitting meditation and kung fu practice, and gave qigong and kung fu demonstrations.  It was a great event for everyone involved.

Afternoon/Evening Closings on 7/24, 7/31, 8/7

Due to performances, the temple will be closed during the afternoons and evenings on 7/24, 7/31, and 8/7.

The performances on 7/24 and 8/7 will be in Chinatown Square and will start sometime around 4:30 pm.
